Main factors affecting the service life of YUASA battery and matters needing attention

The main factors affecting the service life of batteries and matters needing attention in the use process are described below.

(1) The ambient temperature has a great influence on the battery. If the temperature is too high, the battery will be overcharged to produce gas. If the temperature is too low, the battery will not be charged enough, which will affect the battery life. Therefore, the ambient temperature is usually required to be about 25 C, and the UPS floating charge voltage is set according to the temperature. In practical applications, batteries are generally charged in the range of 5 C to 35 C. Lower than 5 C or higher than 35 C will greatly reduce battery capacity and shorten battery life.

(2) Depth of discharge also has a great influence on battery life. The deeper the battery discharges, the less the number of reclaimed batteries. Therefore, deep discharges are avoided in the process of using batteries. Although UPS has low battery protection function, when a single battery discharges to about 10.5V, UPS will automatically shut down. However, if UPS is discharged in a light or no-load state, it will also lead to deep discharge of batteries.

(3) During storage, transportation and installation, the battery will lose part of its capacity due to self-discharge. Therefore, before putting into use, the remaining capacity of the battery should be judged according to the open-circuit voltage of the battery, and then the battery can be charged by different methods. For standby batteries, they should be replenished every three months. The battery can be judged by measuring the open-circuit voltage of the battery. Take 12V battery as an example, if the open circuit voltage is higher than 12.5V, it means that the energy storage capacity of the battery is more than 80%. If the open circuit voltage is less than 12.5V, it should be charged immediately. If the open circuit voltage is less than 12V, the storage capacity of the battery is less than 20%, and the battery is unbearable.

(4) Charging and discharging currents of batteries are generally expressed in C. The actual value of C is related to the capacity of batteries. For example, 100AH battery, C = 100A.
The optimum charging current of Matsushita lead-acid maintenance-free battery is about 0.1C, and the charging current should not be greater than 0.3C. Excessive or low charging current will affect the battery life. Discharge currents usually need to be between 0.05 and 3 degrees Celsius. UPS can meet this requirement in normal use, but it must also prevent accidents such as battery short circuit.

(5) Charging voltage. Because UPS batteries are in standby mode, the main power supply is charged under normal conditions and discharges only when the power is turned off. In order to prolong the service life of batteries, UPS charger is usually controlled by constant voltage and current limiting. When the battery is fully charged, it will become floating, and each floating charging voltage is set to about 13.6V. If the charging voltage is too high, the battery will be overcharged, otherwise the battery power is insufficient. Abnormal charging voltage may be caused by incorrect battery configuration or charger failure. Therefore, when installing batteries, it is important to pay attention to the correctness of battery specifications and quantities. Do not mix batteries of different specifications and batches. Do not use inferior chargers with external chargers, and consider heat dissipation when installing.
