What are the main reasons that affect the service life of YUASA battery?


1. There are strict requirements for charging equipment when the ambient temperature changes. Because of the shortcomings in the design of charging equipment in the past, the normal service life of storage battery is affected.

2. After discharge, due to the inconvenience of charging equipment in the past, users can not replenish UPS batteries in time, and the damage caused by it is that the battery life is greatly shortened.

3. Temperature and temperature have great influence on UPS battery, too high or too low will lead to the decline of battery life (high temperature leads to overcharge, low temperature leads to lack of charge), especially high temperature, which has a significant impact on battery life. Generally speaking, the ambient temperature should be controlled at about 25 degrees Celsius.

4. The influence of discharge depth on the service life of UPS battery is also very large. The greater the discharge depth of UPS batteries, the less the number of cycle usage. Therefore, deep discharge should be prevented as far as possible in operation. Low current discharge simply forms deep discharge.

5. Charging current, UPS battery charge and discharge current is generally expressed in C, the actual value of C is related to battery capacity. For example, a 100AH battery, C = 100A. Generally speaking, the optimum charging current of lead-acid maintenance-free battery is about 0.1C, too large or too small charging current will affect the service life of UPS battery.

6. UPS batteries should be checked regularly after a period of time, and be maintained according to the quality of power supply. Local batteries with good municipal electricity quality and long-term power failure should be activated and discharged at intervals in order to prevent the batteries from being in a floating state for a long time and deteriorating their activity. The time distance can be considered as half a year, and the discharge depth is about 30% of the battery capacity.

How to maintain UPS battery system?

1. Measuring the End Voltage of Battery with Multimeter

Practice has proved that measuring the floating charge terminal voltage of UPS battery with multimeter is unable to determine whether the old battery is now invalid. So it is necessary to measure the terminal voltage offline or online. The terminal voltage of the tested battery is about 12V (for 12V battery), and the minimum is not less than 10.5V. Batteries lacking 10.5V are under-voltage or now out of service. If the voltage at the back end of the battery is less than 12V after charging or activating, it will be an invalid battery.

2. Testing whether UPS batteries have the characteristics of high current output at the instant of start-up


The switching time of backup UPS power supply from municipal power supply to inverters is less than 7 ms, which is generally designed to be about 4-5 Ms. That is to say, once the municipal power supply is interrupted, UPS batteries must output the current required by the load in less than 4-5 Ms. Some failed batteries can satisfy the requirements of terminal voltage and capacity, but the discharge current can not meet the requirements of high current in less than 4-5 ms, which is also unqualified batteries. UPS battery instantaneous output characteristics of large current can only be tested when the power is off. There is a certain risk without knowing the performance of the battery, which is generally not carried out.

3. Discrimination of UPS Battery Capacity

The traditional method of judging the capacity of UPS battery is the same as that of ordinary battery. The whole battery group is separated from the communication power supply system and connected with resistance wire. The battery is discharged at a constant current rate of 8 or 10 hours. Then the discharge time and current of a single battery which reaches the discharge stop voltage at the earliest time are used to calculate its capacity.
